Connect Learning with Student Vlogs

Learners need to make new knowledge part of their individual story. Connections to self, others & the global community provide context for their learning. During this Innovative Learner Collection, you will understand some of the research as to why video works to connect learning, and how you can produce vlogs (video + blog) in the classroom to engage and reflect during the reading process using tools like Screencastify and YouTube.  Never completed a collection in Pyxis before?  You might want to check out this Overview Video that walks you through the 8 Innovative Learner opportunities and the basics on what to expect.

By the end of this collection, you will be able to:

  • Summarize current research that provides evidence for the educational value of using video in the classroom
  • Describe fundamental elements for creating a vlog, including basic vocabulary
  • Utilize and produce a video using a screencasting tool
  • Establish a YouTube channel that can be used to publish student vlog entries or model proper settings for individual channels
  • Demonstrate proper branding and appropriate digital leadership for digital materials that are viewed by an outside community
  • Evaluate, reflect, and provide feedback for classroom video projects
